Save the African Slum Children Association
The mission of SASCA is to help people of extreme poverty change their lives. We aim to provide food, education, medical assistance and housing to those in desperate need and try to addresss the root causes of poverty in three specific slums in Rongai, Kenya.
We started in Rongai in 1987 when we set out to help the most vulnerable in situations of extreme poverty. Having worked with other charities before, we were acutely aware of the extreme destitution in Kenya.
Our first project was to build a feeding centre in Kibera slum. This inspired us to found SASCA and over the years many good people volunteered to help on a regular basis.
Going forward our focus will be on education including the continued provision of school uniforms, school books and educational equipment at primary level. After primary the better option is institutional education and it is our mission to facilitate optimal educational opportunities for the children of Rongai. We have already sponsored the education of two doctors, a pharmacist, two teachers, a lawyer and two engineers as well as many other disciplines. Furthermor we have met many children and families whose lives have been saved by medical intervention which was provided by SASCA.
